Harvard Citation Format

To cite references in Academic Scientific writings, the researchers or authors use Harvard Citation style to cite resources of information.

Harvard Citation Style And Its Features

In Harvard Citations, the in-text citations (author's name, publishing year, and page no.) are enclosed between parentheses which is why it is also known as parenthetical writing.

It seems the same as APA style formatting, as in Harvard style too, the detailed resource citation is given in the reference list. However, the difference lies in the subjects and areas where they both are used.

Research Domains

This citation style can be used for natural or social sciences as well as for humanities when it comes to subject domains.

Format

Editions

Countries

Harvard Citation style is most commonly used in universities and organizations locaed in the UK countries.

Cite The Resources You Used In Harvard Style Professionally

A lot of beginners and new researchers do not make mistakes in understanding a reference style or in citing a reference, the problem occurs when they lose focus. Here are a few points to help you cite references in harvard style professionally.

  • The Harvard style referencing is the same as APA style (mostly). So, if you are aware of APA style referencing, then all you need to do is follow it.
  • The in-text citations contain author’s name(s), publishing year, and page number following the quoted reference or idea. There are two ways to put in-text citations; one where you put author’s name(s) outside the parentheses and other, where author’s name(s) is put inside the parentheses along with the year and page number.
  • The reference citation includes complete information like author’s name, year of publication, title of document, journal name, page number, and so on. The references are alphabetically ordered as per the author’s name.
  • Follow a common order throughout your writing to keep your citations consistent and aligned with each other.

Note: In case of no author, the source title is considered instead of author’s name in both in-text citations and references.
